Preface
This sixth edition of the respected text on construction project management provides irrefutable evidence. The aim is to preserve the flavor and quality of the old book while removing some details and updating the content. The content has been enriched with the addition of new tools that introduce the rapidly changing topics of construction project management. New teaching materials are also added to each unit to increase its value in the classroom. There is a new project numbered selected from the construction industry. Finally, this book takes advantage of technological advances by using a companion website where material is added at the end of the book or added to previous books as large figures.
Some details (such as detailed simulations) and some older content, such as a description of the arrow diagram method for critical path representations, have been greatly reduced or removed. Distribution of other articles was increased and new articles were added. View the overview table that provides values for recurring, extended projects. Introduction to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and related contracts project delivery basis (IPD) basis added. Once again, a chapter and several chapters have been added throughout the book to introduce the basics of low-rise construction.
To support the use of the book in the learning environment, an introductory study section is included in each chapter, containing a bulleted list of learning objectives. At the end of each chapter, a list of key points from the chapter is provided, along with review questions and answers. A PowerPoint presentation has been prepared for each section to support the implementation of the course. These educational additions are expected to enhance the learning experience of and the textbook.
Purchase of the sixth series, a new model project in the form of a commercial building. The bridge example was reworked and in many cases became the same example as the points discussed, showing both the level of construction and heavy state institutions.
The Building example is a real project in the form of a single-story building built in 2006-2007 for a computer software and consulting technology company. Design and construction information for construction projects was provided free of charge to the authors for inclusion in this book by a group of project managers, contractors, and owners. There is also a picture of the building on the cover of the book.
A building is inherently more complex than a bridge. The bridge mainly consists of the structure and the ground and can be clearly identified in several drawings, while the building includes the structure and the ground but also includes the shell so that some things are not visible and control is possible. environment within. All surfaces of buildings, including floors, walls and ceilings, require polishing. Buildings with openings require doors, windows and related materials.
They generally have architectural features such as grinding and casting. In addition, the building includes many systems such as machinery, pumps, fire safety, electrical and low voltage safety and communication systems. Each of these building blocks should be well planned and represented in a diagram (graph). All in all, although the building is small and complex, the design of the commercial construction project includes approximately 40 pages of drawings (). Inclusion of this full drawing image is only possible if the website links to the book. The relevant website can be accessed via URL shortening: www. Wiley. com/go/cpm6e.
In addition to Business graphics, there are many more useful features you will find on this partner’s website. On the website you’ll find figures big enough to cover difficult content off the page in the previous edition. These tables are mentioned in this document to distinguish them from figures in the text. It is available digitally on an accompanying website, in line with the industry’s trend away from paper. Important Supplement material from previous publications is also maintained on the supplement website. Finally, you can find the instructor-only password on the website, along with the answer key at the end of the questions and problems overview, and in the PowerPoint.
A new team of authors has taken on the responsibility of preparing this sixth edition of Construction Project Management. Gerard L. Ronde and Robert O. Segner, Jr. They are proud to have been selected to continue the project management excellence initiated by Richard H. Clough and continued through the many reforms carried out by Glenn A. Sears and, more recently, S. Keoki Sears.
